Aurora Project Reveal

PROJECT SCOPE

This single professional had a well-loved condo in a modest neighborhood.

She wanted it to have an elegance that also met her strict budget. So over time, we executed a room-by-room design to give her the classic and romantic style she desired. By taking the risk on custom drapery, she feels excitement with the perfection of the simple details and quality every time she uses them.

PROJECT COMMENCEMENT

The client had lived in this comfortable condo for many years.

She had never worked with a designer and, knowing her busy career and uncertain design sense, she reached out for help. We discussed early on that she planned to update the whole condo but needed to do it in phases over time.

She never wanted to be in debt and wanted to paycash for everything, something I have total respect for. We started with the main living area, a place that was the most visual when she had guests and family come to visit.

One thing I loved was that in this two-bedroom condo, with the master upstairs and the second on the main floor, she would use the second bedroom as her "Airbnb" on weekends. That was her way of "traveling" while she saved for each step in her design.

OTHER THOUGHTS

Things you won’t find in my projects: telescoping rods, ready-made drapery, cheap tile, thoughtless planning.

What you will find: details that may only have meaning to the client. In this project, it was a bookshelf meant for lots of books, not just a space to hold decor. Books were the focus, and art by Gustav Klimt, which she loved and brought back memories of time with her sweet auntie, was made a feature. At least one fabric that the client can’t live without, and not only do they know it, but it’s the element that pulls it all together.

This client loved the perfection in the fabrication of the drapery. I balance the light and color in a space with the perfect shades, not just the easy ones that might match. We used color in this north-facing space to add light and make it feel brighter without using white everywhere.

MY SIGNATURE

Something old, something new…

Something borrowed (even if it’s from another room or my home), and, of course, something blue or in this case glass to reflect blue light. (drapery image or light coming in window with new wall color image)

PROJECT COMPLETION

I worked with this client for over five years to plan and update her home.

We paid attention to details; nothing was rushed because there was no room for financial mistakes. We took our time, and she always trusted my expertise, which is so valuable to me as I serve my clients. I was honored that she continued to work with me, even through my familial challenges of being a mom of three. She was always kind and gracious.

Yian Q

Since 2015, I have helped over 100 interior designers, builders, builders, and architects – from those just starting out to award-winning designers published in Architectural Digest, Luxe, and more.

My process starts with what is already true within you, then brings it to life in a way that resonates with your ideal clients.

I work with designers because they’re awesome. I’m a member of IDS (Interior Design Society) and served on the board of the Virtual Chapter. Design events I’ve attended include High Point, Vegas Market, and BOLD Summit (Business of Luxury Design).

When I’m not creating brands and websites, you can find me listening to audiobooks and going on long speed walks with friends.

I’m from Seattle and now live in New York City with my wife, Gaby.
